Former CIA Director John Brennan says he believes the U.S. intelligence community will uncover the truth behind the disappearance and alleged murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Brennan made his remarks on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I think (U.S. intelligence officials) know a lot more than we know,” he said. “And I think they’ve been getting information from their Turkish counterparts, as well as other types of intelligence collection capabilities. And that’s why their putting together a picture of what happened for (President) Donald Trump and others.

“And that’s why it makes it very difficult for Trump, as well as (Saudi Crown Prince) Mohammed bin Salman to concoct some kind of cover story because I think intelligence is going to belie it."

Brennan said he hopes intelligence officials are sharing everything with Trump.

“I have confidence my colleagues are teeing up, at least to the White House, what it is that they know.”

Brennan was asked why the public isn’t seeing some stronger message about Khashoggi from others in the administration.

“Well, I think this has been consistent with other instances in the past where individuals have been reluctant to speak out, despite the facts and reality, because Donald Trump is somebody who does not allow that type of dissension and takes it very personally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Turkish crime-scene investigators began searching the residence of the Saudi consult general in Istanbul on Wednesday to search for evidence in the case.
