Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile said Tuesday that the 2016 presidential election wasn't "legitimate" due to Russian interference.

"My personal view is that it was not a legitimate election," Brazile said on MSNBC's "Hardball" Tuesday night.

"So it doesn't count?" Host Chris Matthews asked her.

"Chris, remember, I am the campaign manager of Al Gore in 2000, and where, as you well know, the Supreme Court decided. This election will always have an asterisk by it," Brazile said.

Brazile told USA Today in an interview released Tuesday that she "absolutely" questions the legitimacy of the election, but that "if the impeachment process needs to be started, then we need to wait until we have all of the evidence on the table."

She added that "the Russians were in our system," and that the president needs to acknowledge it.

"I was telling people that leading up until Election Day," Brazile said. "How we could trust the data in our system when it had been corrupted."
