The FBI has reportedly investigated alleged harassment of a half-dozen diplomatic personnel who have returned to the United States in the wake of mysterious health attacks in Cuba and China.

NBC News, citing four U.S. officials, reported the FBI has looked into harassment and break-ins reported by at least six Americans evacuated from the two nations.

Some of the diplomatic personnel said they suspect their homes were broken into after finding items that had been moved or tampered with, NBC News reported. Others said they felt they had been followed or they found questionable activity on their cellphones, the news outlet reported.

At least one person gave the FBI a laptop suspected of being tampered with, NBC News reported.

All were forced to leave Cuba and China after colleagues reported experiencing serious medical issues.

The State Department has not yet found the cause of the "health attacks" against diplomats in both countries, but they have verified multiple U.S. officials positioned in Cuba and China are presenting similar brain injuries.

Intelligence officials reportedly suspect Russia is the prime perpetrator, but the Trump administration says it is uncertain who is responsible, USA Today has reported.

According to NBC News, U.S. officials say physicians hired by the State Department to investigate the diplomats have identified what they call a "Brain Network Disorder" that has changed the brain structure of those affected in ways that other brain diseases do not.
