Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is putting his "political hatred" ahead of his responsibility to protect the nation by opposing President Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall along the southern border, Fox News contributor Thomas Homan said Tuesday.
"This president is negotiating [an end to the partial government shutdown]; it's the Democrats who haven't given one inch on negotiation," said Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
He reiterated the president has given, in his proposal, some of what the Democrats have been asking for, such as a three-year protections extension for some 700,000 DACA recipients, as well as reopening the government, in exchange for the $5.7 billion Trump demands for the construction of a wall.
Homan said, in addition to the Democrats refusing to enter discussions unless the government is first reopened, he was particularly incensed by Schumer's remark his party is "aghast" Trump wants to build a border wall that would replace the Statue of Liberty as what symbolizes America's values.
Turning those remarks around, Homan said he was "aghast" Schumer had voted for a border barrier several times in the past but refuses to now, only because he does not want to give Trump a win.
