Border Patrol agent Brian Terry's suspected killer has been captured in Mexico, Fox News reported.

Cartel member Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes was captured Wednesday by a joint U.S.-Mexico law enforcement task force which included the DEA, Border Patrol, and U.S. Marshals.

Terry's murder brought to light Operation Fast and Furious, a gunwalking scandal from 2009-2011 where the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Phoenix Field Division allowed criminals to buy guns in Phoenix-area shops with the intention of tracking them when they made their way into Mexico.

The agency, though, lost track of more than 1,400 of the 2,000 guns purchased. Terry's killing, which happened in 2010 in the Arizona desert with two weapons the ATF allowed to be purchased earlier in the year by alleged "straw buyer" Jaime Avila found near the scene, set off a political firestorm.

Eric Holder, attorney general at the time, refused to divulge documents for a congressional investigation and said he did not know about the operation until late April, despite memos indicating he had known for more than a year.

A $250,000 reward was set for Osorio-Arellanes' capture. He was arrested at a ranch on the Sinaloa and Chihuahua border in Mexico. U.S. authorities will seek his extradition.
