The Middle East has "descended into chaos" with America's enemies in the region knowing that they have to take full advantage of the final year of Barack Obama's presidency, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said Sunday.
The region's bad players "know they've got one more year of Barack Obama, and they're going to take advantage of it," Bolton said on
"The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.
Iraq and Syria have collapsed as nation states under the rise of the Islamic State (ISIS), Bolton told host John Catsimatidis.
The diplomat, who served under President George W. Bush, said Saudi Arabia is keeping oil prices low to hurt Iran and the U.S. fracking industry.
As for Obama's nuclear deal with Iran, Bolton said, "Iran won't stay bought," adding "there's every reason to believe they've been working together [with North Korea] on nuclear weapons."
The upcoming presidential vote "will be a national security election," he said.
