‘Blimp’ to Join Satellites, Drones in War on Terror

The idea of a blimp for military uses may seem anachronistic in an era of satellites, drones, and stealth fighter jets. But it’s not. A new unmanned airship, to take its inaugural flight in the next few weeks, will be a major boost to U.S. military intelligence capabilities by serving as a low-cost, long-duration surveillance and communications platform. The airship, built by Northrop Grumman (NOC) could be ready for deployment as soon as this fall.
