The New York Post’s front page mocked the decision by Mayor Bill de Blasio to enter the presidential race Thursday.

The newspaper ran the headline: “DE BLASIO RUNS FOR PRESIDENT.”

Above the headline was a photo of four people seated on a sofa seemingly watching a report on the mayor’s announcement.

Three of the people appear to be laughing hysterically, while the fourth is covering her mouth in apparent disbelief.

Next to the headline are photos of other people laughing.

The newspaper posted a story claiming the mayor, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, has been given a new nickname – “Big Foot.”

It said de Blasio, who stands 6’5”,  earned the moniker for swiping policy plans from other politicians.

The Post quoted a former de Blasio staffer as saying: “I know he’s been called ‘Big Bird,’ but when it comes to governing, he’s more of a ‘Bigfoot.’ He stomps in and takes other people’s ideas.”

The Post explained its take on de Blasio in an editorial Thursday:

"As the hometown paper and preferred foil, let us explain why Democrats across America shouldn’t waste time or money on this guy.

"He is both incompetent and crooked; oblivious and arrogant. He won his current job in a fluke election back in 2013, yet ever since has seemed certain that he’s destined to be a major national figure — despite falling on his face time after time.

President Donald Trump also chimed in on de Blasio entering the race. He tweeted early Thursday: “The Dems are getting another beauty to join their group. Bill de Blasio of NYC, considered the worst mayor in the U.S., will supposedly be making an announcement for president today. He is a JOKE, but if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man. NYC HATES HIM!”
