Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke is urging the House to cancel its upcoming two-week break and start impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump now.
O'Rourke, a former Texas congressman, made his comments Thursday on Twitter.
He wrote:
"The House should cancel its break and start impeachment proceedings now. As the whistleblower made clear: Every day Trump is in office, our democracy is less safe. We can't wait to act."
In another tweet, he urged people to go to his website and sign an impeachment petition.
O’Rourke wrote:
"Add your name to tell The House to cancel its two week recess and start impeachment proceedings now."
Congress is set to start a two-week break Friday.
