Crediting his work as a criminal justice reform advocate, "everything from mass incarcerations to wrongful prosecutions," former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik is thankful of the opportunity to overcome his mistakes.

"I made some mistakes in my life; I paid for those mistakes," Kerik told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y.

Kerik was granted a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump this week after serving three years in prison on felony charges including tax fraud and lying to White House officials.

"Honestly, John, I can't tell you everything he said because I got quite emotional as it was going on," Kerik told host John Catsimatidis about the call from the president. "I thanked him profusely. And then we hung up. And I basically sat there for about five minutes looking at my phone thinking, 'What does this mean? What do I do? Who do I call?'

"My first call was to my daughter who is at Michigan State University.

"It was a good day for me!"
