Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is now on board with eliminating the Electoral College in favor of the popular vote.

In a remark Thursday night at a presidential town hall hosted by the League of United Latin American Citizens, Sanders was pressed on the issue.

"It is hard to defend a system in which we have a president who lost the popular vote by three million votes, so the answer is yes," he said.

Previously, he has told The Washington Post he saw the need to "re-examine the concept."

His support brings him in line with other candidates including Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., as well as South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, The Hill reported.
