People on Ground in Benghazi: Times' Report 'Completely False'

By    |   Sunday, 29 December 2013 09:58 PM EST

People on the ground the night of the Benghazi attack have joined Republican lawmakers to condemn The New York Times' report that al-Qaida had nothing to do with the actions that left four Americans dead.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., both blasted the report, saying that The Times did not speak to people who were in Libya when the attacks killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others.

Fox News reports it has spoken with some of them, and says they call the Times report untrue.

"It was a coordinated attack. It is completely false to say anything else. … It is completely a lie," one of the witnesses told Fox.

The Times' investigation concluded much the same thing that administration officials had initially said about the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi – that it was caused by anger over an anti-Muslim video produced in the United States, and that the attack was not heavily pre-planned.

One special operator Fox interviewed took issue with that.

"Guys were coming into the compound, moving left, moving right … and using IMT [individual movement techniques]," the witness said. "That’s not a spontaneous attack."
