Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is now just one point behind front-runner Donald Trump in a new Fox News poll released Tuesday — and he could beat Democrat Hillary Clinton with at least 50 percent of the vote.

According to the Fox poll, Trump and Carson are the only two candidates to have double digit support.

The results:
  • Trump, 24 percent
  • Carson, 23 percent
  • Ted Cruz, 10 percent
  • Marco Rubio, 9 percent
  • Jeb Bush, 8 percent
  • Carly Fiorina, 5 percent
  • Mike Huckabee, 5 percent
  • Rand Paul, 3 percent
Chris Christie, George Pataki, John Kasich and Bobby Jindal each received 1 percent in the poll.

Lindsey Graham, Rick Santorum and Jim Gilmore did not register a result.

Seven percent were still undecided and 1 percent said none of the above or another candidate.

Support for Carson has nearly doubled over the past two months, as "he is seen by voters as being more ethical than others," Fox reports.

In hypothetical general election match-ups against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton:
  • Carson wins 50-39 percent
  • Trump wins 45-40 percent
  • Bush wins 44-40 percent
  • Fiorina wins 42-39 percent
Vice President Joe Biden fares better against Republican rivals, despite his hesitancy to enter the race. In hypothetical general election match-ups against Biden:
  • Trump loses 37-50 percent
  • Carson loses 46-42 percent
  • Fiorina loses 46-42 percent
  • Bush loses 41-46 percent
  • Rubio loses 43-44 percent
Other poll highlights

If Trump was not a candidate:
  • 30 percent would support Carson
  • 12 percent would support Cruz
  • 11 percent would support Rubio
Among Democratic candidates:
  • Hillary Clinton, 45 percent (up 1 point from September)
  • Bernie Sanders, 25 percent (down five points)
  • Joe Biden, 19 percent
Asked about candidates' ethics:
  • 42 percent said Carson was more ethical than other candidates
  • 49 percent said Trump was less ethical
  • 50 percent said Clinton was less ethical
The poll was taken between Saturday and Monday and has a margin of error of 3 percent.
