Beck: America is on the Verge of a Political 'Renaissance'

By    |   Monday, 18 June 2012 10:18 PM

America’s two-party system has never worked and often leaves voters with poor choices in the voting booth, radio host Glenn Beck told NewsmaxTV.

“It’s not working for the same reasons that George Washington said it wouldn’t work,” Beck said in an exclusive interview at the Faith and Freedom conference in Washington, D.C. “In his farewell address, he warned against the two-party system. It becomes corrupt and it becomes beholden of special interests.”

Beck, at the conference to discuss his new book,"Cowards: What Politicians, Radicals, and the Media Refuse to Say,” added: “Beyond that, what really hurt us is the progressive movement, with Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, when the Progressives went into both parties. That’s why there’s no change, that’s why we keep voting for the other party, but it ends up being exactly the same thing. Because they’re Progressives in both parties.

“The secret here is to be able to see this time if we have enough conservatives and free-market thinkers who will be as vocal and as strong and as active with a Republican in office as they are with a Democrat in office,” Beck said. “Do we change because the party label changed?”

The conservative personality – “The Glenn Beck” program airs on 400 stations and is the third-most-popular radio show in the United States – said his book’s chapter on Libertarianism is by far the most important.

“The face of the Libertarianism Movement is Ron Paul,” Beck said. “And yet, that’s not who Libertarians are. There’s a lot of Libertarians who don’t agree with Ron Paul on a few things. I’d make him the Secretary of Treasury [snaps] that fast. I would support him on ending the Fed [snaps] that fast.

“But when it comes to some of the other policies, I happen to disagree with him. That’s OK. That’s OK. The chair has been taken away from the Libertarians at the table of debate. It was always there, but the Progressives took it away. And it became ‘liberal,’ which was Libertarian, and conservative.

“Where’s the libertarian voice?” the former Fox News TV show host asked. “Most Americans are. We have to stop telling lies to ourselves that these parties are that different.”

The 2012 election is the nation’s most important, Beck said, but its significance is being lost among a plethora of debates and Super PAC advertising.

“We are losing the truth of how important this election is,” Beck said. “This is Abraham Lincoln, this 1860s. Whoever is the next president is going to decide the course, because we can’t live in this gray area anymore. We either go to more freedom or to a different system. And so the truth now is more important than ever.

“What does it mean to be a capitalist or a free-market person? Does capitalism mean corruption? Who are we as a people? Who do we answer to? Is there anything bigger than us as an individual? Does the collective exist? Is that a myth? Who’s really calling the shots? What’s the truth on the border?

“Those things have to be answered by each of us as individuals. And the politicians aren’t telling us the truth. They don’t tell us what they really believe. They tell us what the polls tell them to tell us most times. The media, for the most part, traditional media, they’re so beholden to corporations, to the infrastructure, to the power. We have so many favors that have been done to be able to get to that position that there’s no truth there.

“The good news is that people are waking up to it. You’re seeing the parties disintegrate and you’re seeing the networks disintegrate.”

And this “waking up” is benefitting the nation, Beck said. “I think America is just beginning. I think we’re on the verge of a Renaissance in America, I really do. There is a spiritual awakening in this country. There is a determination in this country. People are sick and tired of being tired. They’re tired of it.

“We have lived the last 8 years, 10 years, 12 years – maybe even longer than that – worried about what’s happening in Washington. What difference do they make in your life? What good do they do in your life, really? Besides keeping us safe, relatively, what difference do they make? They make very little good difference.

“You spend hours and hours and hours as a business man trying to get around them. Trying to say: ‘OK, OK regulations, how do I get around this? How do I do this? How do I actually do my business and still remain legal and get around all the bureaucracy?’ How much time do we waste on Washington and worried about politics?

“You want to know why America isn’t the engine of ingenuity anymore? Because all of our ingenuity is being wasted on clowns in Washington, corruption in Washington.

“The best thing we could do for this country is make the unemployment and the housing rises crash here,” Beck added. “There should be high unemployment in Washington, D.C., with the federal workers and the Congress and the housing prices should crash, crash. This should be the place where you cannot get your money out of these houses.

“We should evacuate the federal government and make it as small and as lean as possible, and leave people alone. I think people are getting that more than ever, more than ever.”

Beck added: “Don’t confuse the truth with hatred. Don’t confuse telling the truth with pointing fingers. Nobody wants to be around somebody who’s always saying, ‘It’s their fault. It’s their fault. It’s their fault.’ Let’s look inside. Let’s find out what we personally can do to change it.

“Forget about Washington. You still have to stay active, you still have to stay informed. You still have to vote. You still have to campaign. But that’s not the end-all and be-all. They’re not going to fix our problems – ever, ever. We have to fix our problems.

“Look inside, don’t point fingers,” Beck added. “Point them here. Be a part of groups that are for something, not against something. And, relax, because we win in the end. We’re about to win.”

Glenn Beck's multi-media production company, Mercury Radio Arts, announced Monday that it is merging Glenn Beck TV, its streaming video network, with TheBlaze, its news and information website to create a single, multiplatform media company.

The new merger, which will be known collectively as TheBlaze, will soon offer video content on a 24/7 basis.

"I said from the very beginning that I did not want to call the network GBTV, and a year later I finally got my way. We have ambitious plans for this network and combining the power of GBTV and TheBlaze will help us build upon our success," Beck said.
