President Joe Biden's first year in office is wrapping up, but his disapproval on almost all issues continues to unravel with American adults in the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll released Sunday.

As crime and inflation are rising, so too is American adults' disapproval on those key issues. Infrastructure (53% approve) and COVID-19 response (53% approve) are the only issues Americans are not net disapproval in Biden's handling of, and even the approval rating on COVID-19 is at an administration low for the first year.

A large majority of Americans disapprove (69%) of Biden's handling of inflation, as just 28% approve, while 57% disapprove of his handling of the economic recovery.

A majority of Americans name inflation and paying everyday bills as their top concern under Biden, and he has widely lost support of independents on that key issue, according to ABC News.

Biden's handling of inflation by party:

  • Republicans 94% disapprove.
  • Independents 71% disapprove.
  • Democrats 54% approve.

These findings are not unique either. A wide swath of polls find similar trouble for Biden before the 2022 midterm election year.

Biden's approval rating stands at just 43% among U.S. adults in the latest NPR/Marist national poll released Thursday, as a majority (51%) disapprove of the job Biden has done.

"He's got his work cut out for him," Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, told Fox News. "Obviously, these are not the kind of numbers Democrats are going to celebrate."

The RealClearPolitics polling average has Biden at 42% approval.

Just one-fifth of Americans in the I&I/TIPP Poll say they want President Joe Biden to top the party's ticket in the 2024 presidential race, but even fewer want Vice President Kamala Harris (12%) or other key Democrats to become the party's nominee.

And, in The Wall Street Journal poll, voters side with Republicans over Democrats to handle the key issues heading into 2022. Republicans are stronger on the securing the border, immigration, crime, taxes, inflation, controlling spending, the economy, and dealing with China. Democrats are stronger on healthcare, education, and social programs.

Outside of inflation, Americans are most cold on Biden's handling of crime (just 36% approval), gun violence (32% approval) – both administration lows and 7-point sinks from last month – and immigration (34% approval).

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted Dec. 10-11 among a random national sample of 524 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
