Weiner Places Second in NYC Mayoral Poll

Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner is running in second place among Democratic candidates for New York City mayor, according to the latest poll by Marist College.

The controversial Weiner, who was forced to resign from Congress in 2011 after tweeting sexually suggestive poses of himself, drew 19 percent support from Democratic voters. New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn drew 24 percent.

The Marist poll of 1,001 city residents, conducted May 22-24, represents an improvement from the 15 percent support Weiner pulled in April when he all but announced his candidacy.

In the latest poll, Quinn and Weiner were followed by New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio at 12 percent, former City Comptroller Bill Thompson at 11 percent, and current City Comptroller John Liu at 8 percent.

“The Democratic primary for mayor remains wide open,” Lee Miringoff, director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, said in a statement. “It is likely to come down to who can punch their ticket for the runoff.”
