Anthony Weiner was fined nearly $65,000 Thursday by the New York City campaign finance board for misuse of campaign money, including paying for his personal phone and more than $100,000 in unexplained expenses.

Weiner, a disgraced former Congressman and New York City mayoral candidate, was fined $64,956 after the campaign finance board charged he violated campaign finance law 10 times during his failed 2013 run for mayor, reported the New York Daily News.

Weiner's campaign also will have to repay $195,377.79 in taxpayer matching funds that weren't used.

The campaign finance board said Weiner spent $1,539 on two phones and dry cleaning.

"An audit by the campaign finance board found that Weiner's campaign committee expensed two mobile lines — one of which the disgraced pol said was used for fundraising," noted New York Post writer Yoav Gonen. "But auditors concluded that because this line remained the candidate's personal phone from May-September 2013, its usage is presumed to be personal."

The Post said the majority of Weiner's fines, though, came when his campaign could not explain thousands of dollars in expenses made during the mayoral run and more than $100,000 afterward, including one bill to a consultant.

Weiner, who is separated from Huma Abedin, longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, resigned from Congress in 2011 after sending explicit photos of himself to women over the Internet, said the Wall Street Journal.

The Democrat was leading the mayoral race in 2013 before it was revealed that he continued to contact women over the Internet, per the WSJ. Weiner's continuing Internet activities became connected with the presidential campaign when the FBI launched an investigation into whether he sent explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl.

In that investigation, FBI agents found emails that they believed could have been linked to its separate investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state, and reopened that probe briefly.

The emails, which were connected with Abedin, were cleared and the FBI closed the investigation just before the November election in Clinton lost to Donald Trump.
