Parody Site Mocks Manhattan DA's Trump Probe

By    |   Monday, 20 March 2023 11:42 AM EDT

The Babylon Bee, a website that satirizes the news from a conservative Christian perspective, mocked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump as a plan to help Trump win reelection.

Trump said last week that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday as a result of Bragg's investigation, which the former president claims is an attempt to keep him out of the White House.

The parody article has Bragg saying: "I will stop at absolutely nothing to put Trump back in the White House where he belongs. I'm about to charge up his base like you've never seen!"

The joke also has MSNBC host Rachel Maddow saying: "The optics of Democrats indicting, even handcuffing Trump on charges that have no chance of sticking — what more could the Trump campaign ask for? Mr. Bragg might be the most brilliant Republican strategist this century. He's playing chess while the rest of us are out here playing checkers."

The parody echoes recent comments made by Elon Musk and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that if Trump is arrested, it would only bolster his chances in 2024.

"If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory," Musk tweeted.

"If the Manhattan DA indicts President Trump, he will ultimately win even bigger than he is already going to win," Taylor Greene wrote. "And those Republicans that stand by and cheer for his persecution or do nothing to stop it will be exposed to the people and will be remembered, scorned, and punished by the base."
