Fifty percent of Alabama voters back Democrat Doug Jones, while 40 percent support Republican Roy Moore in Tuesday's election for the Senate, according to a new poll from Fox News.

Eight percent of those polled are still undecided, while 2 percent are supporting another candidate.

Here is how the poll of Alabama voters breaks down:

  • 11 percent of Republican surveyed are supporting Jones, compared to 81 percent who favor Moore.
  • 90 percent of Democrats back Jones, while 4 percent support Moore.
  • 50 percent of independents favor Jones, compared to 21 percent who support Moore.
  • 70 percent of Jones' supporters say they strongly back the candidate.
  • 57 percent of Moore backers strongly support him.
  • 48 percent say it is more important to vote for a candidate with a strong moral character, while 33 percent say it is more important to vote for someone who would vote like they would.

"Moore might prevail if only the people who typically vote in Alabama elections turn out Tuesday, which is often what happens in special elections," said Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Republican counterpart Daron Shaw.

"But this appears to be a special, special election with blacks and young voters animated by a caustic Republican candidate and the chance of winning a statewide election with national implications, and at the same time some Republicans and many moderates are turned off by Moore, too."

Moore is facing accusations of sexual assault and harassment from women

The poll, conducted Dec. 7 to 10, surveyed 1,127 Alabama voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points for the full sample of likely voters.
