Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn. — under fire for sexual misconduct during a USO tour in 2006 — once referenced his victim by name in a 2010 speech on the Senate floor, calling her a “a beautiful woman.”

In the speech — first unearthed by CNN — the liberal Franken was speaking about the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy , and related his experiences on USO tours with other entertainers, including his USO co-host and accuser Leeann Tweeden, saying “almost all of them were very right wing,” but that “we love each other” because of the shared work.

Tweeden, now a Los Angeles-based radio news anchor, charged last week that Franken aggressively kissed her without her consent while they were rehearsing for a skit for the tour. She also posted a photograph of a smiling Franken grabbing her breasts through her flak vest while she slept on a plane ride home from the Middle East.

Franken has said he remembered the rehearsal differently, but apologized and he said he would cooperate with an ethics investigation.
