Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson who poured millions into Newt Gingrich’s attempt to win the Republican nomination for the White House, is now backing Mitt Romney — to the tune of $10 million.
He will give the cash to the Restore Our Future super PAC that is backing the former Massachusetts governor, the
Wall Street Journal’s blog, Washington Wire reports.
Restore Our Future would not confirm the figure, but if true, it would mark the largest single donation to Romney’s effort to wrest the presidency from Barack Obama.
Last week, it was reported that Adelson would give $1 million to the PAC after he met Romney face-to-face at his Sands casino in Las Vegas. He wanted the meeting to convince himself that Romney is the right man to take on Obama.
Among his key concerns was Romney’s commitment to Israel, the Journal reports.
According to the paper, Adelson is worth more than $10 billion and is ranked among the 10 wealthiest Americans by Forbes Magazine.
He supported Gingrich’s campaign with $21 million in donations and has told friends he wants to give at least $100 million to conservative causes and candidates in the current election cycle.
