Former federal prosecutor for Washington, D.C., Joe diGenova apologized for comments "made in complete jest" and a "poor attempt at humor" about former Trump cybersecurity official Christopher Krebs.
"I just wanted to say to the Newsmax viewers that my comments the other day on 'The Howie Carr Show' on Newsmax about Mr. Krebs were made in complete jest," diGenova told Friday's "American Agenda."
Krebs was the U.S. director of cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency (CISA) under President Donald Trump.
Earlier this week on "The Howie Carr" show DiGenova said, "Anybody who thinks the election went well, like that idiot Krebs who used to be the head of cybersecurity. That guy is a class A moron. He should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot."
Friday DiGenova said, "They were, I must say, a poor attempt at humor. They were hyperbole during a political discussion.
"And I meant no suggestion of harm or intention to harm Mr. Krebs or his family, and I apologize for any misunderstanding of my intentions."
Krebs wrote an op-ed this week for the Post, saying "Trump fired me for saying this, but I'll say it again: The election wasn't rigged."
DiGenova sees the allegations of election irregularities and the mishandling of ballots as credible points of contention in President Donald Trump's lawful contesting of the election results.
