New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was caught off guard by the coronavirus and hasn't done enough to protect first responders during the pandemic, former New York City Police Chief Bernie Kerik told Newsmax TV on "The Chris Salcedo Show."
"I think he (de Blasio] could've done more ... What if there was a biochemical attack in New York City? Would they have masks? Would they have ventilators? Would they have the equipment they needed?" Kerik told Newsmax TV. "We're 19 years out from September 11th ... and this is a crisis and the mayor was not prepared for it."
Kerik also criticized de Blasio's blanket releasing of criminals from New York City jails, which includes letting out violent felons.
The former police chief called on the mayor to help get first responders the equipment they need to stay safe while on duty.
"Get the PPE, the protective equipment that these men and women need to do their job. Make sure they have masks. Make sure they have gloves. Make sure they have things they need to do the job, so they don't get sick," Kerik said on Newsmax TV.
