Karl Rove Recalls Emotional Flight 93 Families Meeting

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

Karl Rove emotionally recalled to Fox & Friends his connection to the events of Sept. 11, 2001 on Wednesday.

Rove, who was a senior adviser to President George W. Bush on the day of the attack, said he particularly remembers meeting a few weeks later at the White House with the families of those who were killed on Flight 93 when it crashed into a Pennsylvania field as the passengers and crew attempted to regain control of the hijacked plane.

"You can't think about it without getting emotional," he said.

The families "knew that their loved ones had sacrificed themselves in order to keep that plane from flying in the Capitol or the White House. I'll never forget meeting them."

Rove said every Sept. 11 he receives an email from former White House chief of staff Andy Card, and his assistant calls him at 8:48 a.m. ET, just as she did on that day.

Rove informed Bush when the first plan struck the Twin Towers.

It was Card who interrupted to whisper into Bush's ear while he was reading to Florida schoolchildren about the second strike after officials learned it was a deliberate attack.

Rove said he remembered Card briefly paused in the doorway before he went to tell Bush what was happening and did not know the reason for the slight delay until a few years ago.

Rove said Card "explained that when he got to the door, he realized he had to know exactly what he was gonna say to the president so the president wouldn't ask any questions. He went in and said a second plane has flown into the World Trade Center, America is at war."
