A Thought Experiment in Meritocracy

A Thought Experiment in Meritocracy

As can be inferred from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's ebullient behavior, it is unlikely that the more rational recesses of her mind have ever mused the concept of meritocracy, unless, of course, it was dismissed as a creation of misogynistic, old, rich, White men, just to exploit people of color, victims of gender dysphoria, and anyone holding the short end of life’s lot.

Inasmuch as we stand, yet, to witness an iota of AOC’s full understanding of why and how she ended up in Congress, one might also assume that critical thought remains an estrangement to the inner reaches of AOC’s mindfulness.

Moreover, based on her exhibited and very limited thought process, it is unlikely that she eventually will arrive at just how it happened to be a perfect storm of chance, alone, that carried her well beyond her merits. Now, as if there on merit alone, AOC’s seat is the result of what the Founders likely would have considered to be a failed or defrauded process.

Every time I hear of how the NFL strategically leveraged the College Draft for their next generation of player pickings, I marvel at how each team makes its decisions based on only one P.C.-proof consideration: the raw potential to help the team win more games.

No matter the skin color, religious affiliation, gender orientation, nor anything that can’t be directly correlated with winning, when it comes to recruiting talent with only winning in mind, Political Correctness be damned.

Of course, there might be “front office” PR speak that alludes to some abstract P.C. acknowledgements; however, were one to peel back the public trope and look deeper into the signed contracts, team objectives, weaknesses now strengthened, it will become more than apparent that there is nothing egalitarian about sports, not even for players sharing the same team.

Imagine that AOC has been hired as the new NFL Commissioner. However, based on the performance of Roger Goodell, some might even lobby for AOC as an improvement. But I digress.

Were the NFL to find itself under AOC’s activist boot heel, would this mean a seminal change for AOC, or would the league be transformed into something unrecognizably ruined? Would many of the brands be ordered changed, due to being too toxic male or criminally racist?

Would she set an arbitrary mix of men, women, and transgender players — all to share the same locker rooms? Would males be prohibited from hitting above the waist or using open hands when tackling women? And would, at least, half of the teams find their male-dominated ownership repudiated and rescinded, along with the N.E. Pats barred from further competition for having performed beyond their allocated wins?

Honestly, will AOC ever come to grips with the harsh realities of life and that Utopia is not an ideal that can be legislated... not even under her self-aggrandized and narcissistic sway.
