Lackluster Manchurian Candidacy Won't Win Biden Votes

Joe Biden is an empty suit. Just call him 'Rip Van Biden.'

On the rare occasions when Biden does answer questions from the press, those questions aren’t about how he would implement his own agenda if he becomes president; they’re about how he would implement the agenda of the radical ideologues who completed their takeover of the Democratic Party while Biden snoozed in his basement.

Just like Rip Van Winkle, Biden is awkwardly trying to find a way to fit in with the new reality that greeted him when he awoke from an extended slumber.

It was almost 100 days since the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee finally held a press conference, during which time Biden has been accused of sexual harassment, the country has been rocked by a devastating pandemic, and Democratic officials have begun openly acting on demands to "defund the police."

For context, President Franklin Roosevelt managed to institute the core elements of the New Deal during his first 100 days in office, including the Civilian Conservation Corps, the National Industrial Recovery Act, and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

If Biden’s first 100 days in office were to turn out anything like his past 100 days on the campaign trail, the country would be in serious trouble.

Amidst Biden’s self-imposed seclusion, he has lost any semblance of control over the direction of the Democratic Party. When reporters manage to track him down, they want to know his opinions on defunding law enforcement, "autonomous zones" in major American cities, or tearing down statues and historical monuments.

Biden’s actual policy platform is an afterthought, at best.

This isn’t an entirely new phenomenon, though. Biden has been playing catch-up to his party’s far-left fringe from the moment he declared his candidacy. When the other candidates raised their hands to indicate their support for providing "free" taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal aliens during a primary debate, for instance, Biden raised his own hand right along with them.

Indeed, on virtually every major issue, including economic policy, healthcare, illegal immigration, and trade, Biden is significantly to the left of every other Democratic Party presidential nominee in history. It’s not born out of any personal conviction, though; Biden is simply going along with a sentiment that he doesn’t fully comprehend because it has assumed primacy within his blinkered establishment world.

Biden himself can’t even muster any enthusiasm for his Manchurian candidacy.

When Hillary Clinton was extolling his supposed virtues while endorsing him, Biden couldn’t help nodding off in his chair.

Biden’s scripted campaign events are thoroughly unimaginative, as well, reflecting the former vice president’s pained efforts to find a message that will resonate with the far left.

Attacking Donald Trump is always a crowd-pleaser, and it offers the added advantage of letting Biden skirt any substantive discussion of his own policy ideas.

Rip Van Winkle fell asleep as a British subject and awoke to find himself in a free and independent country. Rip Van Biden fell asleep as a consummate establishment politician and awoke to find himself the puppet of a radical and aggressive fringe movement.
