Today we’re going to play a rousing game of pin the poll on the donkey.

See if you can match poll results with the geographic location of the poll respondents. The KPIX 5 Survey USA poll found that 53 percent of the people "said local law enforcement should always contact federal authorities about illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes."

That’s a good number, but not overwhelming.

Then we find 70 percent think Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be notified when an illegal commits a "serious drug-related" crime.

That question had particularly broadly-based support with 83 percent of Independents, 78 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of Democrats in favor of dropping the dime on druggies.

So where are these people located? Could it be Idaho or Montana?

Maybe a hotbed of hate located in Georgia or Mississippi?

Or, a state smack dab in the middle of flyover country like Kansas or Oklahoma?

If you guessed any of those red states you are wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong.

This poll, with eminently reasonable responses, was taken in that bizarre petri dish of bad ideas — the San Francisco Bay area.

The results boggle the mind. San Francisco is the nexus of sanctuary city sanctimony and resistance to enforcing immigration law, yet the people don’t support what the politicians are doing.

So whom, exactly, are the politicians representing?

Democrats are constantly bleating about "the people," yet here is a case of those same people wanting illegals that have been arrested to be turned over to ICE and the political class is deaf to their pleas.

So who is bending these leftist politicians ears?

The obvious answer is ideologues and open borders fanatics.

Even after the poll results were announced Supervisor Mark Ferrell told KPIX 5, "He is a firm believer in San Francisco's sanctuary city policy. Is in favor of the current law and says any changes should come from law enforcement."

Ferrell’s answer is a perfect combination of ideological rigidity combined with buck passing.

Residents might support turning drug offenders over to ICE by a 70 to 30 percent margin, but San Francisco’s sanctuary policy forbids the police department from notifying ICE about any drug violators on a first offense.

If you think going to the DMV is an annoying and bureaucratic mess, look at the hoops an illegal has to jump through before being turned over to the feds for processing. He or she must be convicted of three serious drug offenses within the last five years and there must be probable cause the arrestee committed a fourth.

Under that policy Pablo Escobar wouldn’t have been reported to the feds.

San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy is insane and endangers city residents. I wonder what it will take for them to vote into office a politician who listens and has common sense.
