I know something about a presidential transition for obvious reasons. During this time of uncertainty and behind-the-scenes jockeying many names are floated for many jobs. Some of the names are legitimately under consideration for the jobs mentioned, but many are cast into the public arena by the person themselves in the hope that someone in the incoming administration will bite.

Other names are put forward by outside groups that would like to see their viewpoint represented in the new administration and the prospective nominee they are backing is just the person to do the job.

That being said I don’t know what category former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee fits into, but as far as I’m concerned I think nominating him as ambassador to Israel has real merit.

Huckabee has of course issued a pro forma denial of the nomination, since that news is supposed to come from the administration and not the nominee. But I can still hope. The source behind the report in the Daily Mail Online was quoted as saying, “Huckabee's first order of business as the tip of Trump's spear in the region would be moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. 'That's going to happen. Governor Huckabee is going to see it through.'”

The paper also says the nomination has been mentioned in Israel, too, “International Business Times had reported Thursday that according to The Jerusalem Post, 'several members of Trump’s transition team confirmed the former Arkansas governor and minister will assume the post once the administration is installed in January.'”

I can only say it’s about time.

In 1995 the Congress passed a bill authorizing a move of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem. This being Congress, they built a loophole into the bill that allowed the president to delay the move due to “national security interests.”

That loophole has been thwarting the transfer for 21 years.

The State Department has opposed the move since it would put the United States firmly behind Israel’s annexation of all of Jerusalem and would supposedly interfere in the mythical “peace process.” A process that must be taking place in a watched pot, because it never boils.

This reasoning is simply anti-Israel agitation since the embassy will be located in West Jerusalem which under any “peace treaty” where Israel is still in existence will be retained by the Jewish state.

Huckabee is a stanch Israel supporter and has conducted many Biblically-based tours to the nation.

Mike Huckabee as U.S. Ambassador to Israel is the right man, in the right place, and certainly at the right time to move our embassy to the capital of our only reliable ally in the Middle East.
