The Daily Signal has an in–depth story about six high school girls who appeared before the school board to explain why they didn’t “want a high school student who was born male, but identifies as a female, to use the girls’ locker room.”

This took a great deal of courage for these young Target shoppers to stand up in the face of withering leftist pressure and the consequent potential to be labeled as bigots or homophobes.

One must have a great deal of sympathy for the affected girls as they faced a crowd estimated to be at least 500 strong. Intellectually they know a male wants to change clothes in their locker room, but the culture’s social conditioning is so strong and the fear of being called a bigot so daunting that they do the pronoun dance while explaining their valid, reasonable objections to having him in their locker room.

“I will always be respectful and will treat her like I would anyone else I know. We all have to deal with inconveniences that we have to deal with, and I don’t feel as though someone should gain special treatment over me and all other naturally born girls," one girl explained. “I can’t say that I understand [her] feelings, but there are so many other people that you have to consider despite yourself."

Another said, “Then she is fully exposed to everything in the locker room. That was my main concern with the privacy curtain. It’s not like there’s a curtain around her face, it’s not like she’s not looking at everything around her.”

Left unsaid in all these battles is the fact that the entire controversy smacks of more than a little exhibitionism and adolescent power plays. This boy doesn’t merely want to change clothes in the girl’s locker room. He wants to play on the girl’s sports teams, which is one way to guarantee a starting spot, since regardless of what may or may not be going on mentally, he still has a male body.

What’s more, he’s won. The school district has been forced by the threat of losing federal funds to accommodate his whims. The agreement now is he will change in a “private changing station” that uses privacy curtains — like a shower with no water — to shield him from the girls.

Only his staying behind the curtain is not legally binding. If he decides to take a stroll at an inopportune time for the girls, then that’s their problem. He has the ACLU on his side.

But I’m wondering when will this country come to its senses and be on the side of the normal student that’s not interested in being a test case with nationwide publicity? The student who only wants to live a normal life and pursue normal goals?
