Fourth of July Moved for Ramadan

Is it required that one be ashamed of the United States before being allowed to join the U.S. State Department, or does it merely enhance your chances for promotion?

I ask because I just read that the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia celebrated the 4th of July on the 4th of June. This confused me at first. I know the International Dateline does something to the calendar, but I didn’t think it moved events an entire month.

But no, the movement had nothing to do with astronomy and everything do to with apology. Ambassador Robert O. Blake explained, “We are celebrating a month early to respect the holy month of Ramadan.”

That says it all: "the holy month of Ramadan.” I ask you, have you ever heard a U.S. ambassador, Cabinet secretary or Democrat refer to “the holy weeks of Advent?” Or the “holy week of Easter?” Or “the Savior Jesus Christ?”

Of course not, only Muslim holidays are holy, and only Muhammad comes with his title “Prophet.”

Ramadan is one of those flexible holidays that moves around on the calendar. Thanksgiving will shift a week or two, but Ramadan jumps entire months and this year it starts on June 17 and ends July 17. Frankly, I’m wondering what’s going to happen in Washington, D.C.

The district is home to Indonesia’s embassy along with Saudi Arabia, which was Muhammad’s home. Should D.C. move observance of the 4th to August so as not to offend?
