Disaster Relief? We're On Our Own

Why is it that people who aren't even Americans are entitled to thousands of dollars' worth of "free" benefits — including hotel rooms and debit cards paid for by Americans — but Americans devastated by the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene are only worth a $750 loan?

Does anything else capture the essence of the value the Biden-Harris regime places on Americans?

More finely, the contempt the Biden-Harris regime has for Americans?

Criticism of the appalling lack of response by the Biden-Harris regime assumes mere incompetence but it is something far worse than that. The hurricane was not an unexpected event that caught authorities off-guard.

The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) had weeks' advance-notice of what was coming — yet did literally nothing for days after the Hurricane devastated the area around Asheville, NC as well as parts of Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia.

Not only did it do nothing, it also did something.

It thwarted attempts by ordinary Americans who decided to help when they saw government wasn't doing what is arguably the most fundamental thing we expect from government, which is to protect people from being harmed.

Elon Musk is not an ordinary person, but he is an American — and he has been trying to help other Americans — by publicly shaming the Pete Buttigieg, the regime's secretary of transportation, who has apparently been party to the thwarting of private relief efforts.

According to Musk, the regime shut down the airspace in the devastated areas, even to the extent of forbidding remote-controlled drones from doing video reconnaissance that might alert rescuers to the presence in remote areas of people in need.

"Interfering with emergency response operations impacts search and rescue operations on the ground," tweeted Buttigieg. But how can there be an “impact” when when there is no "response" to speak of? Excepting that of Americans trying to help other Americans when those Americans are left to fend for themselves by a government that has made it clear it does not care about Americans.

That has made it clear it cares more about people who aren't Americans. Tnes of thousands of whom are — literally — convicted criminals.

As opposed to the American citzens stranded by the waters that a former law enforcement officer who happens also to be an experienced helicopter pilot tried to rescue using his own helicopter, covering the cost of the fuel it takes to fly a helicopter, himself.

He was theatened with arrest for daring to help because FEMA wouldn't.

Or couldn't — according to Alejandro Mayorkas, the regime's impeached secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. On account of lack of funds. Naturally.

Only three months ago, Mayorkas — the man most responsible for the wide-open border that has helped to bankrupt federal and state resources — declared "FEMA is tremendously prepared. This is what we do. This is what they do."

And now Mayorkas has the gall to say: "We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have ... we do not have the funds — FEMA does not have the funds — to make it through the season."

FEMA hasn't made it through last week.

But it is practicing damage control.

FEMA Director of Public Affairs Jaclyn Rothenberg has reportedly locked down her Twitter account while also setting up a "rumor control hotline" to deal with all of the inconvenient truths getting out about FEMA's appalling neglect of Americans in need.

But perhaps the most insulting thing the regime has done thus far is to offer a $750 loan they must repay after one year. If they do not repay the loan — which they must sign a legal contract to receive — the government can seize whatever property they have left.

In other words, the Biden-Harris regime is offering nothing to people who’ve lost everything. In order to make it appear that the Biden-Harris regime is helping them buy "essential items like food, water, baby formula and other emergency supplies" that they’re actually having to pay for themselves.

This also assumes there are supplies available.

They haven't been, for days — because of the regime's callous indifference to the plight of American citizens, as contrasted with the regime's obsessive interest in the welfare of people who aren't Americans. Who have been the recipients of debit cards worth up to $18,200 per year.

It will cost billions to rebuild the storm-ravaged areas of North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and other parts of America — and it will be Americans who get to pay for that, too.

Many of the homes lost to the flood waters in North Carolina were not insured for floods, which means the Americans who owned those homes will be homeless. And Americans whose homes were not washed away will pay more for their home (and car) insurance, because the insurance companies will increase the cost of their premiums to cover the billions in losses.

But maybe it is all about the money — in another sense. There is reportedly a lot of lithium in the very areas devastated by the hurricane and lithium is a key material needed to make the electric vehicles the Biden-Harris regime is pushing on Americans.

There is a lot of money to be made from this grift — and now the land where the lithium can be found is what you might call available.

It could just be a coincidence.

But it's getting harder to believe in those anymore.
