Global warming is an increasingly hot topic. This summer’s deadly heat wave has been unprecedented across the globe, affecting Japan, Britain, the U.S., Greece, Siberia, and Sweden, as well as other countries.
At face value, we see no clear or direct connection between our actions and such consequences as global warming in nature. However, the more we study nature, the more the connection becomes apparent. Studies by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), suggest that the extreme weather changes are not happening by chance, "The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity."
Most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have endorsed this position.
We act as if we are two independent entities — humans and nature — but we exist in a single, closed system. Also, the place where we play an active role with nature is where we least expect it to be — in our thoughts, intentions, aspirations and desires — which are all integral parts of the natural system, and which play a crucial role in our balance or imbalance with nature.
What Influence Do We Really Have?
It might seem to us as if nature operates randomly, without purpose or direction, but on the contrary, nature operates with pinpointed accuracy, according to a set of predetermined laws that guide its details to a single, harmonious goal — the positive connection of humanity as a single human society.
As Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag writes, "All the conducts of creation, in its every corner, inlet and outlet, are completely prearranged for the purpose of nurturing the human species from its midst, to improve its qualities."
Humans are at the peak of this four-layered pyramid in nature, whereas the other, lower levels — still, vegetative and animate—are influenced directly by us. However, we humans are the only ones acting principally for own own self-benefit within this system, and this causes suffering to nature’s different levels, including ourselves.
If our connections are negative — exploitative, manipulative and abusive — then a negative chain reaction sparks throughout all levels of the system. Accordingly, if we make our connections positive — supportive, loving and caring — then we spark a positive influence that ripples throughout the system.
Therefore, we have the ability to reverse the destructive current path of humanity.
Our balance with nature will begin when we recognize and reveal that negative human relations are the real cause of environmental problems, imbalance, disintegration of our social infrastructure and all the natural disasters affecting us.
When we nurture positive social connections, global warming and all other negative impacts of nature toward us will recede. By fulfilling our role in preserving the natural balance, we will safeguard our planet and invert the current downward path of humanity into an upward rise toward balance and harmony.
