Philadelphia Mayor James Kenney tempted fate when he was filmed performing a celebratory “happy dance” in response to a court ruling approving the city’s sanctuary status two months ago.

It didn’t take long before Karma came calling, and it arrived with a vengeance.

Philly’s sanctuary city status resulted in giving a “free pass” to Juan Ramon Vasquez, a Honduran national who repeatedly sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl, according to U.S. Attorney William McSwain.

“DOJ announces charges against a previously deported illegal immigrant from Honduras who raped a child after being released by the City of Philadelphia because of its sanctuary status,” reported Saagar Enjeti, Daily Caller White House correspondent.

“The facts of this case highlight the danger imposed by the City of Philadelphia’s decision to disregard ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] detainers and release previously deported aliens from local custody,” McSwain said in a statement.

“Those of us in the law enforcement business should be doing everything in our power to protect vulnerable children from predators like Vasquez. Instead, the defendant received a free pass from the City of Philadelphia and its Department of Prisons, headed straight back into our community, and committed a heinous crime he never would have had the chance to commit had the City of Philadelphia complied with their ICE detainer.”

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume had a two-word response: “Congratulations, Philadelphia.”

On June 6, Steve Preston, Kenney’s deputy chief of staff posted a video of the mayor joyfully dancing after U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson ruled that the Donald Trump administration couldn’t withhold federal funds because of the city’s stated sanctuary status.

“Mayor Kenney displayed excitement because it was an important moment for all Philadelphians, especially our immigrant community,” Deana Gamble, his communications director, told Fox News.

It wasn’t much of an exciting moment for a little 5-year-old girl — for her it was a nightmare.

On Tuesday, Enjeti reported a remarkably similar case involving another illegal immigrant, Ramon Pedro, who arrived in the United States with another young girl.

“An illegal immigrant who arrived at the border in April with a young girl he claimed his daughter has been arrested for raping her on multiple occasions,” Enjeti reported in an update from the Department of Homeland Security. “The girl was given to the man by her mother with a promise of employment in the US.”

In a related story, also on Wednesday, House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., observed that voting for Democratic candidates in 2018 will give “leverage” to illegal aliens.

She was right — Voting Democrat Kenney in office gave Vasquez enough “leverage” to do what he wanted to a little girl. And Kenney’s “happy dance” was more along the lines of a dance with the devil.
