If there was ever any doubt that the string of indictments and lawsuits targeting former President Trump were rooted in politics, that doubt should have disappeared Tuesday morning.
The Biden reelection campaign held a press briefing yesterday at a questionable location — in front of the Manhattan courthouse where jurors were about to hear closing arguments in the so-called "hush money" trial against Trump.
Donald Trump Jr. recognized the implications right away.
"In case you needed more evidence that all of these BS cases were quarterbacked by Team Biden to interfere in the 2024 election, the Biden campaign is now showing up in NYC to explicitly cheerlead the political prosecution of my father," he said.
And Politico.com may have revealed the "why" yesterday in a story headlined, "Dems in full-blown 'freakout' over Biden." They reported that "a pervasive sense of fear has settled in at the highest levels of the Democratic Party over President Joe Biden’s reelection prospects."
Also, one has to wonder if this isn’t a last-ditch attempt to influence the jurors.
Even if they couldn’t hear the commotion outside, many may flip on the evening news or read a paper and learn all about it — despite the court’s instructions to avoid outside reports.
The Biden-Harris campaign, however, denied that the Trump trial had anything to do with their venue choice.
"We're not here today because of what's going on over there,” the campaign official said. “We are here today because you all are here.”
But when push came to shove, it turned out that they really didn’t care much about the ordinary folks who “all are here” thought.
When the event was opened up for questions, one person asked, "Do you consider Trump a threat to all these wars Biden has gotten us into?"
The Biden spokesman ignored him and asked, "Any media questions?"
Another asked, "Is this a weaponization of the Justice Department?"
The campaign spokesman repeated, "Any media questions?"
The first person concluded, "You won't answer the real questions — only the fake news?"
The event’s announcement indicated that "special guests" would make an appearance in addition to campaign officials, which included New York City native, celebrated actor, and longtime Trump-hater Robert De Niro.
For the most part he read his speech from a script and it was, if anything, unhinged, including a reference to 9/11.
"The Twin Towers fell over here," he said. "We vowed we would not allow terrorists to change our way of life."
He concluded, "Donald Trump wants to destroy not only this city, but the country, and eventually he could destroy the world."
"Destroy the world"? Trump placed sanctions on Iran — a state sponsor of terrorism.
Biden ended those sanctions, and since then Iran has stepped up its development of a nuclear weapon.
Additionally, Iran’s terrorist proxies — Palestine’s Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah — brutally attacked Israel.
After Biden stripped the terrorist designation from the Houthi movement — another Iranian proxy — they’ve been attacking both global commercial shipping and U.S. warships with rockets and drones released from their Yemen strongholds.
And then there’s the open southern border under Biden.
The number of suspected terrorists who’ve illegally entered the United States rose more than 2,500% under the Biden administration, according to federal data released last week.
Then we have the Russian invasion of Ukraine and China’s saber-rattling toward Taiwan under Biden’s watch, which, when combined with the war in the Mideast, have made the world a more dangerous place.
But, according to De Niro, Trump "could destroy the world."
The press briefing’s announcement also confirmed that it came directly from the Biden-Harris campaign when it said it would be held "Tuesday, May 27, 2024."
In fact, it said that twice lest anyone forget.
But Tuesday was May 28. Reading calendars — just like everything else — is hard for Biden-Harris.
And like everything else, the Trump lawsuits and indictments have nothing to do with a quest for justice. They’re a failing, feeble last-ditch effort to save a failing, feeble campaign, to extend a failing, feeble administration, run by a failing, feeble president.
And it’s coming down at a time when “Dems [are] in full-blown ‘freakout’ over Biden.”
It’s all politics, and the Democratic presidential rally in front of the courthouse where Biden’s No.-1 competitor’s trial was winding down proves it — transparently so.
It’s not just lawfare on a grand scale — it’s election interference as America has never seen since Nov. 3, 2020.
