The left’s latest darling, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, should consider suing Boston University for educational malpractice.

It would be an open and shut case. Really.

The self-described socialist has everything it takes to go far in Democratic politics: She’s young, attractive, and has experience working for the late Sen. Edward M. (Ted) Kennedy, D-Mass. and then as an organizer for the 2016 presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

She topped it off by defeating Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y. in a June primary, by running an intense grassroots campaign. Before Crowley’s stunning defeat, he was considered heir apparent to become U.S. House speaker if the Democrats retake the chamber.

There’s just one problem. When she’s questioned beyond her "bumper sticker" talking points, she comes off looking dumb as a stump.

When Ocasio-Cortez sat down for an interview with Margaret Hoover on PBS’s "Firing Line" Friday, she appeared confident in her grasp of the issues and at ease with her apparently long-held beliefs.

By the time it was over, she was a deer in the headlights.

When Hoover asked about her criticism of Israel for defending itself against an attack by Hamas terrorists, she accepted the Jewish state’s right to exist (big of her) but condemned recent killings at Gaza as "unacceptable."

Warming to the interview, she took it a step too far. "I also think that what people are starting to see — at least in the occupation of Palestine — is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition and that to me I just where I tend to come from on this issue," Ocasio-Cortez said.

Hoover honed right in on the "occupation of Palestine" statement. "What do you mean by that?" she asked. "Oh, um . . . [long pause] . . . I think what I meant is . . . like . . . the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas and places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes."

Hoover pressed. "Do you think you can expand on that?"

She couldn’t. "Yeah . . . I mean, I think . . . I'd . . . also just — I am not the expert on geo-politics on this issue."

Okay. So she’s not an expert in international relations. No one can be an expert in everything. The interview moved on to something every socialist knows something about — or at least believes they do — economics. "Do you think that capitalism has failed to deliver for working class Americans?"

Hoover asked, after observing that the economy was booming and unemployment at historically low figures."Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs," Ocasio-Cortez explained, prompting Bloomberg columnist to reply on social media, "That's . . . that's.   . . . That's not how unemployment works!"

Said Naval War College professor Tom Nichold, "This is fine. Glad to see the Dems are out to reassure America that they can govern," adding "Excuse me while I go scream into the void now."

After complaining that people have to work long hours to support themselves, she continued, "Capitalism has not always existed in the world and will not always exist in the world."

Okay. So in addition to being uninformed in international relations, she’s also uninformed on economics. Fair enough. Again, no one is an expert on everything.

Biography.com reported that "Ocasio-Cortez graduated from Boston University, majoring in economics and international relations."

Hmmm.  . . .  Then again.  . . .

As MSNBC Live anchor Stephanie Ruhle observed, "This will not help the blue wave."

Uh, yeah, we’ve already covered that one.

On the other hand, she should give that lawsuit against Boston University some serious thought. She could be a big winner.

All she has to do is pick a really smart jury — Republicans.
