Freudian Slip? Santorum Almost Says He's Running

By    |   Thursday, 15 August 2013 06:47 PM

Despite what some would call obvious moves in that direction, no major Republican or Democrat has declared plans to seek the presidency in 2016.

But one of 2012's hopefuls almost did so, even if it was accidental.

Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, appeared on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto" on Thursday to discuss various topics, when Cavuto said, "A big backer of yours last go-around, Foster Friess, when we mentioned your name again, when he was here …"

"A regular! A regular on Cavuto!" Santorum interjected, then joked, "I think it's wrong when the guy who helps you financially is on your show more than the guy who is actually running," then quickly corrected, "who ran for president."

Despite the interest of the evangelical Christian businessman Friess, Santorum insisted he's still in the "thinking-about-it" stage of a 2016 run.

Cavuto asked if he'd consider stepping aside if a prominent GOP name decides to run.

"I'll do what I did last time," Santorum said. "Everyone said it was pretty much a foregone conclusion, and there were a lot of other "brighter lights" supposedly running than Rick Santorum. I just try to look at the situation and see, is my running going to be good for the country?"
