Carly Fiorina: Al Gore Hurting Global Warming Cause

By    |   Thursday, 22 August 2013 06:08 PM EDT

Al Gore's comparison of manmade global warming critics to alcoholic fathers and perpetrators of apartheid in South Africa ruffled some feathers, and Carly Fiorina says Gore is hurting his own cause.

"He has become such a polarizing figure. I think there are many people who suspect this is more about Al Gore than it is about global warming," Fiornia said Thursday on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."

Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, ran as a Republican to unseat Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., in 2009. Tapper pointed out that at the time, Fiorina accused Boxer of being overly concerned about "the weather" rather than jobs.

With the bulk of scientific evidence pointing to human activity as a major contributor to global warming, Fiorina told Tapper she is willing say it probably is true. Still, she said, the problem can't be fixed by the United States alone. China, the other major player, will have to help, she said.

She urged President Barack Obama not to "get hung up on whether a pipleline is contributing to global warming." She said innovation is needed to solve the problem, not an attack on oil production.

"There is no silver bullet; there is no perfect solution," she said.
