The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports, as of Jan. 14, there have been 427,000 COVID deaths during Joe Biden's presidency, as compared to 421,000 during former President Donald Trump's.
Not surprisingly, Biden supporters in the Liberal Media and the medical professions have been spinning this public health catastrophe, as Biden vowed during the 2020 presidential campaign "to shut down the virus."
In an interview on Jan. 11 with Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC, Dr. Peter Hotez, co-director of the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development and co-developer of a COVID vaccine just approved in India, demagogically claimed that "the far-right anti-vaccine aggression has caused 200,000 Americans, since ... last June, to lose their lives because they were defiant of vaccines."
Since the CDC counts 594,000 COVID deaths as of May 31, 2021, and 838,000 as of January 10, 2022, the day before the Hotez-Mitchell interview, 244,000 deaths occurred during these seven and one-third months.
Mind-bogglingly, Dr. Hotez is arguing that 200,000 of these American COVID decedents, or 82%, would still be alive, if they had not been duped, by right-wing anti-vaxxers, into refusing inoculation.
But Dr. Hotez's claim is epidemiologically impossible, as there then would have been only 44,000 COVID deaths between May 31, 2021, and January 10, 2022, or an average of 6,000 deaths monthly.
During Biden's one-year disastrous presidency, the lowest monthly death tolls occurred between April and July 2021: 19,000; 15,000; 8,000; and 11,000. The average is 13,250 deaths per month.
But no COVID variant struck during these four months. Delta erupted in August 2021, with 48,000 COVID deaths, and Omicron has been raging since last month, with 42,000 deaths.
Moreover, between May 31, 2021, and January 10, 2022, four other advanced democracies, which have comparable vaccination rates to those in America, have seen much lower percentage increases in COVID deaths than the U.S.
On May 31, 2021, the percentages with at least one dose were: Israel, 59%; UK, 58%; U.S., 52%; Germany, 43%; and France, 39%.
On January 15, 2022, the vaccine percentages had risen to: France, 79%; UK, 76%; U.S., 75%; Germany, 74%; and Israel, 72%.
But Oxford University's Our World in Data also documents that America has suffered the highest percentage increase in deaths between August 1, 2021, and January 16, 2022.
During this period, COVID deaths in the U.S. soared from 613,000 to 851,000, or 39%. Its death rate jumped from 184 to 256 per 100,000 people.
Israel's deaths rose from 6,477 to 8,318, or 28%. Its death rate increased from 70 to 90 per 100,000.
Germany's deaths increased from 92,000 to 116,000, or 26%. Its death rate rose from 109 to 138 per 100,000 people.
Deaths in the UK increased from 130,000 to 152,000, or 17%. Its death rate climbed from 190 to 223 per 100,000.
France's deaths nudged up from 112,000 to 127,000, or 13%. Its death rate increased from 166 to 188 per 100,000 people.
One possible reason for America's anomalously high COVID death rate is the Biden administration's failure, since the summer of 2021, with booster vaccinations.
On January 15, 2022, booster rates were: UK, 53%; Israel, 53%; Germany, 47%; France, 42%; and US, 24%.
Additionally, during the MSNBC interview last week, Dr. Hotez charged that the phantasmagoric unvaccinated 200,000 COVID deaths since June 1, 2021, were disproportionally "conservative" residents of "red states," who voted for Donald Trump.
But according to the CDC, 111,000 of the 244,000 COVID deaths, or 45%, between May 31, 2021, and Jan. 10, 2022, were in the 24 states that Biden won in 2020.
Further undermining Dr. Hotez's second collective scapegoating is the epidemic's trajectory in his home state of Texas, which ranks second, as of Jan. 14, with 75,633 deaths, behind California's 76,660.
But only five of 254 counties — Bexar (San Antonio), Dallas, El Paso, Harris (Houston) and Hidalgo — account for a disproportionate 27,571, or 36%, of Texas deaths. Democratic-run Harris County leads with 9,864 deaths. The average vote for Biden in these five counties was 61%, while Trump won Texas with 52%.
A possible contributing cause for the colossal 42% increase in COVID deaths between 2020 and 2021, in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, is President Biden's insane policy, since Inauguration Day, of allowing millions of untested migrants to cross the southern border with Mexico.
In 2020, the four border states, three of which Biden won, had 79,000 COVID deaths. In 2021, they have suffered an incompletely tallied 112,000 deaths.
Finally, despite the abominable spinning from the Biden administration and supporters in the Liberal Media and medical professions, including the ubiquitous Dr. Hotez, the president had a 53% negative and only 33% positive approval rating in a Jan. 12 Quinnipiac poll.
And 55% of Americans, appropriately, disapprove and only 39% approve, of his COVID response.
