Is there anyone — anyone — who can fathom why President Trump hired Omarosa to work in the White House? She’s a known troublemaker, a disaster waiting to happen.

Was the motivation political correctness? A superficial attempt to improve race relations? A temporary lapse in judgment? What was it, Mr. President?

Omarosa Manigault-Newman was a contestant on “The Apprentice,” when Donald Trump hosted and executive-produced it. Nobody liked or trusted her, on the set or off.

It surprised nobody, then, that she continued and reinforced her ill-tempered, anti-social conduct in Donald Trump’s White House.

Until, finally, Chief of Staff John Kelly fired her on December 13, 2017, with her exit effective January 20, 2018.

Now, she’s hawking a book and releasing her secretly recorded conversations with General Kelly, on the day of her termination, and President Trump, after she left the White House.

Shocking. Not.

What is shocking is that President Trump created this mess. He knows better.

Frankly, at this point, I don’t care who said/did what, or when. What matters is that this chaos exists in the first place.

Lesson for all: One bad apple can indeed spoil your entire barrel — in other words damage, even sink, your culture, brand, and organization.

It’s one thing to hire an employee who surprisingly goes rogue. That happens. It’s another to bring voluntarily a professional saboteur into the mix.

When Omarosa joined the administration, the Trump-hating media openly taunted and mocked her – because black people aren’t “allowed” to work for Republicans, especially those whom the media have designated as racist.

Now that she’s a rat, the media can’t get enough of her. And, their expanded coverage clogs Trump’s communications channels.

Allegedly, Omarosa drew a $179K/year salary, the top tier of White House salaries, doing whatever it is she did. Treachery, I believe they call it.

The cleanup’s cost will greatly exceed, by a factor of at least ten, that $179,000.

And, that’s the point. Cleanups always cost more than their messes. Don’t they?

This mess was avoidable, predictable, self-inflicted.

A “grenade employee” can cost an organization much more than her annual compensation. Omarosa is hogging the media cycle and the bandwidths of White House personnel. Lawyers now have to investigate and probably prosecute the laws that she may have broken.

To create and maintain a strong brand, the members of an organization’s team must row in the right direction, in the same direction — and believe in that direction.

This is impossible when someone disregards and disrupts the organization.

Omarosa disregarded and disrupted the White House’s team, momentum, and message (anyone remember Space Force?), and the blame lies squarely with its captain.

Never purposely hire an Omarosa. If you discover one in your organization, remove her before she damages it.
