President Obama is not living in the world that the rest of us are. His reality is blurred by his ideology, and it seems that facts on the ground remain meaningless to this president.
When it comes to ISIS, this president chooses to wish them away, rather than actually implement the leadership and policy that would halt and destroy them.
This started when the rise of ISIS was met with indifference.
In January of 2014, Obama compared ISIS to a “JV” team, despite the fact they had just taken over the city of Fallujah in Iraq.
One day prior to the Paris attacks last month, Obama made the statement that ISIS was contained. Then Paris happened, and his response was almost unbelievable. How tone-deaf this president has become. He used this platform to attack Republicans while overseas.
The Free World was looking for leadership at that moment. People were scared, and they wanted to hear how those responsible would pay for these cowardly acts . . . instead, they got an American president making attacks on candidates for president while on foreign soil.
He called his critics' comments as “popping off,” as if speaking out against this president’s failed ISIS strategy is somehow being disrespectful.
Then San Bernardino happened.
At this point, you would think that Obama would come out with a strong response now that ISIS obviously had reached the U.S. — that he had assured us it didn’t.
He failed again. He gave his old talking points with no actual solutions as to how we are going to destroy ISIS, while going out of his way to not offend Muslims.
He can’t even bring himself to say “radical Islamic terrorism.” The reality is that air raids may not be able to stop an organization as large with as much territory as ISIS, but we aren’t even trying that.
We have a dozen or so air raids per day, compared to hundreds of air raids per day that Bill Clinton did during our intervention in Kosovo.
Yesterday, Defense Secretary Ash Carter testified in front of Congress to say that in fact ISIS is not contained. The best he could muster on our progress is that “we are building momentum against ISIS.”
This administration’s own military leadership doesn’t know what the strategy is — because there is no clear strategy.
We continue to have Band-Aid response after Band-Aid response to all of the territory gains that ISIS has made with no victory in sight.
Now that ISIS is successfully committing terrorist acts in free countries, a tacit response from the president is not comforting.
Everyone is aware that the majority of Muslims are peaceful, but it is those same peaceful Muslims that the free world needs to start expecting more from in both short-term military operations and the long-term ideological war.
The response from the president lately to ISIS has been almost odd. Attack Republicans, claim containment, make sure to not offend Islam as a religion, and stay the current course.
People yearned for more leadership at a time of great insecurity. The president has a way of trying to will things to be the way he sees them, while ignoring the harsh realities.
The world really doesn’t care about words from this president anymore, and it seems like his actions are always too little too late.
