Regardless of whether Emmanuel Macron or Marine LePen is elected President of France Sunday night, President Trump is likely to continue his predecessor's tradition of calling both candidates regardless of who wins.

"I would imagine that would be the case," White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Newsmax on Friday afternoon, "He's made a practice of reaching out to foreign leaders across the globe and I would imagine he would do that once the election is over. "

In asking Sanders if Trump will call the two contenders in the French run-off, we noted how President Barack Obama had a habit of calling both the winner and loser in major elections worldwide. For example, he congratulated Shinzo Abe when the leader of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party became prime minister following the election of November 2012.

But Obama also called to console outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, whose Democratic Party was demolished in the elections.

Obama called Socialist Francois Hollande upon his election as president of France in May of 2012, but also called defeated incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy. In Egypt's first-ever presidential election in May of 2012, Obama congratulated apparent winner Mohammed Morsi and then called the narrow loser, retired Gen. Ahmed Shafik.

"I don't know this for certain," Sanders said of Trump making similar calls to the winner and loser in France on Sunday. "But I would imagine that would take place."
