Minutes after President Donald Trump and the Republican House Members and Senators who enacted the $1.5 trillion tax cut into law took their victory lap Wednesday, the same lawmakers were out defending the landmark legislation as a major boost for the middle class.

In what could easily be a "dress rehearsal" for the 2018 midterm elections, the Republican Members of Congress who spoke to Newsmax outside the White House all, to a person, made the case the first tax reform measure in more than 30 years would assist working families and encourage investment.

Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Penn., and David Perdue, R-Ga., both of whom had highly successful careers in private business before entering politics, were particularly vocal on this side of the issue.

"We lowered the after-tax costs and passed a bill that encourages new investment," Toomey said. "And everyone who makes $24,000 a year and up will benefit. Every family who lives paycheck to paycheck will find this law to be very helpful."

Perdue emphasized "six million Americans will be taken off the tax rolls and [workers] will get the benefits of $4,000-$9,000 a year more in their jobs."

"Look, in 1986, the last time we passed tax reform, we had the third lowest corporate tax in the world," the Georgian told us. "Now, we have the highest corporate tax in the world. By enacting the largest corporate tax cut in U.S. history, we make our products going overseas more cost-effective. And we keep twice as many foreign corporations from taking jobs abroad as now."
