Texas Rep. Brian Babin is taking on the Obama administration over the contentious immigration debate.

On Tuesday, the White House dismissed Babin's claims that the president was "defying the warnings of his own security experts" by calling for an increase in the number of refugees admitted to the U.S. from Syria, the Middle East, and North Africa — hotbeds of terror.

At the regular briefing for reporters at the White House, I reminded Press Secretary Josh Earnest how he had previously dismissed Babin's claim and used Earnest's own words, "I suspect the national security experts that he's referring to may have given themselves that title — I'm not sure it's one that they've earned."

Babin, I pointed out, subsequently produced quotes from FBI Director James Comey, National Intelligence Director James Clapper, and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson.

All three spoke of risks involved bringing in people from conflict zones in Syria, with Clapper quoted as saying, "We don't obviously put it past the likes of ISIL to infiltrate operatives among these refugees. That is a huge concern of ours."

Earnest was unmoved. "I don't think that is at all an accurate representation of their views," he told me, "but you should go ask each of them and find out."

On Wednesday, Babin hit back. "It's terrifying that the president and his chief spokesperson are unmoved by the fact that the Director of the FBI, Secretary of Homeland Secretary and Director of National Intelligence have all said that they cannot properly screen Syrian refugees for security risks," Babin told me.

"No matter how much they try and spin this, the President's reckless refugee policies are putting American lives at risk. It's truly remarkable that the president would expect us to trust the same DHS to adequately screen refugees that recently mistakenly granted U.S. citizenship to nearly 2,000 individuals from countries known as hotbeds of terror."
