On the 20th of January 2018 the United States Government ran out of money and this nation had what is called a “government shutdown.” And nobody really cared! Of course the gang of three, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and their surrogates in the news media were totally consumed with this. But nobody else really cared.

In October 2012 Hurricane Sandy struck the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut area. This adversely affected millions of people. Cell phone service was interrupted, electricity service was out, and gas stations either ran out of gas or couldn’t use the electric pumps. The Stock Market suspended trading October 29-30, 2012, due to the storm. People’s daily lives were affected.

My friends and relatives in the western states have told me that the recent series of fires in the west has created a smoke cloud covering most of the west. Children are kept inside due to the smoke causing breathing problems and the cars all have ash falling on them. People’s daily lives are affected.

Except for minor services the effects from the government shutdown on the average person were hardly noticeable! Unlike the 2013 government shutdown even the National Parks were open. People were still able to tweet, we still received useless spam emails, gas stations didn’t run out of gas, the dog still has to be walked, the kids still had to go to soccer practice, charge cards still worked.

The stock market not only continued trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average actually went up from closing at 26,071.72 on January 19 to 26,214.60 on January 22!

Even in the Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., the city known for panic buying when there is the slightest threat of snow flurries, toilet paper was still available on the store shelves.

The media was all abuzz with Democrats blaming Republicans, Republicans blaming Democrats, Congress blaming the president, the president blaming Congress. And the talking heads were out in force competing for two minutes in front of the news camera to give an “educated” analysis based on their cherry picked selection from the latest list of “scientific” polls.

Operating in their desired paradigm of Washington, D.C., politics, the only people who care about a government shutdown are the “gang of three.” This only serves to create a platform for them to act out their perverse theatrics to an ever more skeptical and decreasingly populated theater of the absurd.

As long as there is beer in the fridge, texting isn’t interrupted, gas stations have gas, the TV works, and the pizza is still hot when it is delivered, nobody cares.
