National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn is expected to resign his position shortly after the president and his economic team return from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, later this month, several administration sources told Newsmax.
Cohn's likely successor in the White House is Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, widely considered President Trump's closest friends in the Cabinet, souces said.
A former Goldman Sachs chief executive officer, Cohn was one of the premier architects of the Trump tax reform package that went into effect Jan. 1.
At the time, the White House heatedly denied Cohn was leaving. As press secretary Sarah Sanders told me when I asked about Cohn on Jan. 4, "Gary has stated he's committed to being here. We have just come off a very successful win."
Two weeks later, however, this situation might be changing.
