Using its strongest language yet to dispel rumors in numerous published reports, the White House on Friday assured Newsmax that Gen. H.R. McMaster is not leaving his position as national security adviser to the president.

Asked if one could assume that McMaster will accompany the president to the just-announced summit with North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un and thus remain national security adviser, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told us, "I have no reason to believe otherwise."

When we pressed the president's top spokesman whether that meant McMaster would remain in his White House position no matter when the summit was held, Sanders said: "Look, I don't have a crystal ball to predict the future."

She then went on to use the strongest language yet that anyone has used about McMaster not resigning.

"[T]he president's national security adviser is General McMaster," said Sanders, "He's a valued member of the president's team, and an important part of this process."

We asked if Sanders' reply meant McMaster was not leaving the White House anytime soon.

"Not that I'm aware of," she replied.

For more than two weeks, rumors have been mounting in the media that McMaster and Trump are not getting along and that the retired three-star general wanted out.

Among those mentioned to succeed him at the NSC included former CIA director and retired Gen. David Petraeus and retired Adm. Bob Harward, a one-time U.S. Navy SEAL and one-time deputy head of U.S. Central Command under Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
