The latest survey on Georgia's seemingly unpredictable special election for the U.S. Senate confirms what most Peach State political "insiders" have been telling Newsmax for weeks: Democrats are rallying to Rev. Raphael Warnock, pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, and the Republican momentum appears to be with Rep. Doug Collins.

According to the Quinnipiac poll completed days ago, Warnock leads the field with 41%, followed by Collins with 22% and appointed Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler with 20%.

"I expect Rev. Warnock to get low 40s," former Rep. John Linder, R-Ga., a past chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, told Newsmax. "I think Loeffler and Collins are a tossup. Collins seems to be writing his own TV [ads]. They are down-home and lack any of the polish of professionals. They are very, very effective. A win for him would not surprise me."

Under Georgia election law covering special elections, all candidates compete on the same ballot in November, and if no one receives a majority, the top two vote-getters regardless of party meet in a runoff.

At this point in the 2020 general election, 1,962,503 people have applied to vote by mail. At this point in the 2016 general election, that number was 462,258, according to georgiavotes.com. That means the turnout for this year is 325% higher.
