The highly unpredictable special election for the U.S. Senate in Georgia got a new "jolt" Tuesday, as Republican Rep. Doug Collins got the endorsement of retired Gen. Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump's first national security adviser.

"As the deep state attacked our very way of life, Doug Collins was willing to stand in the breach, shoulder to shoulder with our President, Donald J. Trump," tweeted Flynn. "Doug is fearless, tells it like it is, and always takes the path of truth against the vicious attacks and lies from the radical Left."

The strong blessing of Flynn, a hero among Trump enthusiasts throughout his three-year ordeal in court, is likely to underscore the claim of Collins' supporters that their man, and not appointed Sen. Kelly Loeffler, is the true "Trump Republican" in the race.

Under the Peach State's unique election law, all candidates regardless of party appear on the same ballot in November, and, should no one win a majority, the top two vote-getters meet in a December runoff election. According to the most recent Quinnipiac poll, Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock leads the field with 41%, followed by Collins with 22%, and Loeffler with 20%.

"I think the Trump team has always been behind Doug," a former Republican officeholder in Georgia who requested anonymity told Newsmax. "The president has played prominently in ads for both Doug and Kelly."

The same source pointed out that former Trump campaign aide George "Papadopoulos is here this week for Doug and [American Conservative Union Chairman] Matt Schlapp was here last week. Kelly desperately needs suburban women and I'm not sure how that is working out. Doug clearly owns rural Georgia."
