Of the fifteen Republican U.S. Representatives from Florida, it seems a safe bet to say that the most vulnerable is two-termer Carlos Curbelo of the 26th District (Miami).
A few days ago, the Mason-Dixon poll conducted for Telemundo 51 (Miami) showed Curbelo clinging to a 46 to 45 percent lead over Democrat and former university official Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Nine percent of the voters were undecided and the margin of error was 4 percent.
Mason-Dixon’s findings came days after reports that Democrat Mucarsel had substantially outraised Curbelo. According to published reports, she reported raising $1.6 million in the last quarterly to only $865,000 for the incumbent.
Curbelo had closely identified himself with the Trump tax cut bill of 2017. But Mason-Dixon found 48 percent of likely voters say they have not benefited from the tax cut, compared to 31 percent who say they have.
Republicans knew from the start they would have a difficult time putting Curbelo over the finish line. Two years ago, Donald Trump lost the 26th by a hefty sixteen percentage points, and in the Mason-Dixon poll this year, Democrats Bill Nelson and Andrew Gillum are leading in the races for senator and governor respectively.
