For more than two weeks, the North Carolina press has carried reports about Democrat U.S. Senate hopeful Cal Cunningham's admissions of sexual texts with a married woman who is not his wife.

Almost incredibly, he has continued to lead Republican Sen. Thom Tillis in most subsequent polls.

But on Thursday, a Civitas Institute poll showed the Senate race tightening. According to Civitas, Cunningham led Tillis 46% to 43% among likely voters statewide.

Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper leads Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Forest by a healthy 52% to 42%, Civitas found.

A new Rasmussen poll showed President Donald Trump — who has slightly trailed Joe Biden in several recent polls, including Civitas — now leading the Democrat nominee in the Tarheel State 48% to 46% statewide.

"President Trump is surging in North Carolina and poised to win here in 2020," Raleigh, North Carolina, TV host and veteran political analyst Marc Rotterman predicted to Newsmax.

Rotterman also predicted that "Gov. Cooper will easily be reelected and will likely garner more votes than any candidate in the state. But it won't be enough to carry Cal Cunningham  across the line."

Forecasting widespread ticket-splitting on Tuesday, Rotterman told us "Tillis will win in a squeaker by less than 15,000 votes."
